Alicia Barton Joins Utilidata Board Of Directors

December 18, 2020

Utilidata®, Inc., an industry leader in grid-edge optimization, announced today that Alicia Barton has joined the company’s board of directors. Currently Chief Executive Officer of FirstLight Power, Ms. Barton brings extensive clean energy leadership from both the public and private sectors.

“Alicia has been at the forefront of transformation in the energy industry, both in government and the private sector. Her perspective will be invaluable as we transform smart meters into a grid-edge platform for the clean, modern electric grid,” said Utilidata Chief Executive Officer Josh Brumberger.

Ms. Barton’s past public service includes serving as the President and CEO of the New York Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and previously as CEO the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), where she implemented nation-leading clean energy strategies. Her prior private sector experience includes serving as Co-Chair of the Energy and Cleantech Practice at Foley Hoag LLP, and as Chief of Operations of the Global Utility business unit at SunEdison.

“Utilidata’s market-leading grid-edge solutions will maximize utility investments in smart meters and make it easier for distributed clean energy resources to connect to the grid,” said Ms. Barton. “The next decade is expected to be a period of unprecedented grid transformation, and the risks of failing to plan for the future are greater than they’ve ever been. I look forward to working with the Utilidata team to ensure we collectively harness the power of grid-edge computing to make smart investments today that will bring forward the clean energy future we know is coming.”

Utilidata, which closed a Series C fundraise earlier this year, has established ground-breaking partnerships with the largest meter companies in the world to embed grid-edge software solutions directly into smart meters. The company also has long-standing partnerships with a number of leading utility companies, including AEP and National Grid.

“Utilidata’s market-leading grid-edge software applications have already made them a critical partner to meter companies and utility customers,” said John Rapaport, Chief Investment Officer at Keyframe and Utilidata Board member. “However, there is also tremendous value in this technology for a wide variety of clean energy stakeholders, from stakeholders in the built environment to electric vehicle fleet operators. We look forward to having Alicia’s expertise as the team begins to unlock new promising markets.”

Ms. Barton also serves on the board of directors of numerous prominent climate-focused organizations including Greentown Labs, and the Environmental League of Massachusetts.

“Alicia is a well-respected clean energy expert and leader in both the industry and the community. We are excited to welcome her as a member of the board,” said Don Tappan, Braemar Energy Ventures Partner and Utilidata Board member. “Utilidata has a strong track record of developing and deploying industry-leading solutions, the latest of which will help accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy.”
